Pirate Flags – Day 3 of National Craft Month March 2012

As we continue our Craft a Day Series during National Craft Month, today we will be making pirate flags.

This is a fun craft that takes little effort and supplies and can take as long as you want to make your chain of flags.

What you’ll need:  colored paper, scissors, glue and ribbon

Step 1 – To make the flags, fold several rectangle of paper in half with their short ends together.  Crease the folds well.

Step 2 – With the fold at the top, draw an upside down ‘V’ at the bottom of each flag.  Then, cut along the lines, keeping the layers together.

Step 3 – Draw or print out (we chose to print since we are not in the least artistically inclined) pirate symbols.  We chose pirate flags, anchors, cutlases, and palm trees.  Cut out your shapes to be glued to your flags.

Step 4 – Glue you shapes to your flags

Step 5 – Attach your flags to a string or ribbon.  On the inside of the fold of each flag we taped the tape to the flag to keep it from slipping down the ribbon.

This is a great craft for a rainy day or to make decorations for a pirate party.  Your little one can help and feel important for helping to decorate their party.
