Paper Caterpillar – Day 11 National Craft Month March 2012

With Daylight Savings giving us our extra hour of daylight at the end of the day today, we are really thinking about Spring.  What’s more Spring than caterpillars?  So we found this great craft from the book What Shall I Make?

Here’s what you’ll need: 4 strips of colored paper (we used two each of green and yellow), glue, a third color paper for eyes and a pipe cleaner for feelers.

Step One – Cut four equal strips of card stock.  They can be the same color or two different colors, depending on your preference.

Step Two – Put some glue on the end of one of the strips and join it with another, like this.

Step Three – Fold the left strip over and crease it.

Step Four – Fold the other strip down over it.

Step Five – Keep folding one strip over the other to make a concertina shape.

Step Six – When you get near to the end of the strips, glue on the spare strips, then keep on folding.

Step Seven – When you reach the end glue down the top piece and trim the ends.

Step 8 –  Add eyes and feelers.

One fun and colorful caterpillar.  Bring on Spring!
