Abstract Art Pattern – Day 22 National Craft Month March 2012

Abstract art often uses bold, repeated patterns.  You can make your own abstract pattern by weaving paper strips together.

To make a similar pattern and teach your children about modern, abstract art all you need is construction paper, scissors and some tape.

Take three pieces of paper in different colors.

Draw wavy lines across one piece.

Cut along the waves.  Be sure not to cut right to the edge.

Cut the other pieces of paper into strips.

Weave the strips under and over the waves.  Turn over and tape the ends.

This craft came from The Usborne First Book of Art which is a great introduction to art in all forms.
