Please Let Me In!

This weekend, Clive was wandering about Red Bank, as aardvarks are want to do, when he came upon a locked gate. When he saw that it hid a patio with all sorts of carved stone blocks, he felt the need to investigate.

He tried to get in by squeezing between the bars but he’s had one too many milkshakes over the past few days.

Next he tried to climb over the fence but it was too high

and he got stuck half way up. His trusty handlers had to come and extricate him from the bars which was not nearly as easy as it would appear. He really has been overindulging!

One of his handlers suggested trying the door to the box office but, since it was Sunday, that door was closed to him also. He gave it the old college try however.

Perhaps, once his torch bearing duties are over, Clive will be able to take in a show at the Count Basie Theater and see the new patio properly (without resorting to breaking and entering!)

An Aardvark’s Got To Eat!

Which one of Red Bank’s hottest restaurants was a certain Olympic Torch Bearer spotted at last night? None other than Via 45, found at 45 Broad Street.

Sources tell us he was there to visit his old college buddy, Edmundo the Charmed Elephant.

Of course, you cannot leave Via 45  before chatting with the Purple Cordy Roy Horse. He knows everything about everything!

Unless my eyes deceive me, that’s one of Clive’s biggest fans on the lower shelf – the beige bashful bunny!

Via 45’s chefs, Claudette & Lauren, were gracious enough to invite Clive into the kitchen so he could see how his dinner was prepared. It was such an honor and of course, the food was delicious!

BEAT THE HEAT!

With the high temperatures and life-sapping humidity we’ve been having recently, it’s not easy running through town with a lighted flame! However, Clive is a resourceful aardvark and he knows just what to do to beat the heat!

Ice cream at Ricky’s. Need I say more?

The Galleria

While at the Farmers Market on Sunday, Clive checked out some of the stores in The Galleria.

The owners of The Danish Cafe were so helpful in setting up the shot. Unfortunately, the photographer was too busy drooling over the brownies to notice that the picture was out of focus:}

Hey! There are many actresses who pay a lot of money to appear slightly fuzzy in their pictures!!

Moving on! Did you know that the owners of Frame to Please opened a new booth called Paws for Cause to help raise money for pet owners who can’t afford surgeries for their pets? Clive supports this idea fully especially since there is no national health care in place for aardvarks!

(Again with the fuzziness, and I don’t even have chocolate to blame this time.)

What Does An Olympic Torch Bearer Do On The Weekends?”

If you’re Clive, Red Bank’s own Olympic Torch Bearer, you travel around town, spreading happiness to everyone you meet. But, you also need to keep up your strength, so Saturday morning found our intrepid runner gearing up for a weekend full of meet & greets with a fresh smoothie from Funk and Standard’s Juice Bar.

After a quick game of hopscotch on the way out (have you seen the cool board they put on the floor of their store? Awesome!), Clive continued on his way.

Next he popped in to visit his favorite bartender who was working the Temple Bar at The Dublin House.

Clive takes his duties very seriously so there was no drinking involved. There might have been a quick dip into a bucket of ice cubes however. WHAT?? It was hot!

Sunday, Red Bank hosts a farmers market in the Galleria parking lot. Since an aardvark needs to keep up his strength, Clive stopped by for fresh veggies and fruit. At Fresh Pik Farm’s stand, he found a treasure trove of fresh corn.

He also stopped by the Red Bank Visitor Center’s booth for a quick chat.

While there, he put his name in to win a $100 Red Bank Gift Card. God only knows what he plans to do with it if he wins!

Stay tuned to see where he goes next…..

Olympic Torch Bearer Journal – Day 4

Last night, I decided to take a break and just dance!

Joining the dancers from Bolero, I just let loose and enjoyed myself. Unfortunately, official Olympic Torch Bearer duties prevent me from being with them at the actual performances, but they were kind enough to let me “do my thing” for one night.

Now, revitalized and back on track, I’m ready to go. Except …. I could use some new music in my running mix. Maybe some Springsteen “Dancing in the Dark”? Or Billy Idol “Dancing with Myself”? I think I’ll stop by Jack’s Music Shoppe and see what they have in stock.

Clive, Red Bank’s Torch Bearer, Takes a Break to DANCE!!!

Clive, Red Bank, NJ Olympic Torch Bearer, was doing great yesterday sticking to his assigned route.  Then late in the afternoon, he was nowhere to be found.  We did eventually find him trying to sneak into the Two River Theater’s auditions for Red Bank Bolero.

Clive is surprisingly graceful for an orange aardvark with very short legs.  Watch out So You Think You Can Dance!!

Don’t worry, he should be back on track tomorrow.
