This week Clive went to the New York International Gift Show. He spent a great deal of money buying new inventory for Fragile Earth and we cannot wait until it all starts to arrive so we can show it off to all of you. This trip was also Clive’s introduction to Instagram and we had a blast documenting his trip.

Every week we change the quote on our sidewalk sandwich board at the store. This week, Clive* chose a quote from a book he’s reading – Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes by Jonathan Auxier.
This is a great chapter book to read aloud, it reminds me of just the kind of book our parents would read to us when we were younger. It encourages us to leave reason behind. Sir Tope , Peter’s sidekick, is a knight who is a combination of horse and cat, thanks to a cranky hag.
Clive says leave reason behind and open your mind to all the possibilities!
*Clive, our store mascot, is a Jellycat Cordy Roy Aardvark and can be found at Fragile Earth in 15″ and 10″ sizes.
Two years ago I got my first sewing machine and I found a pattern to make baby bibs which looked easy enough for me to try. Not only was it fairly easy, I found I really enjoyed making them. So I made up two or three and brought them into Fragile Earth to see if anyone would be interested in buying them. At this point, my sister in law was pregnant with this guy.
Please note the dashing baseball bib he is modeling!
So I knew, if worse came to worse, I would send them down to her.
The next day we sold our first bib in the store and, as I am wont to do, I got so excited I ordered a TON of fabric to start my new bib making empire. While it never turned into an empire, our bibs have turned into one of our best selling items in the store. The funny thing is we put them on etsy and online and they don’t sell, except one every blue moon. I wonder why?
So we continue to make bibs and now we are adding special holiday bibs. Stay tuned for our Easter collection coming soon.

In honor of Elvis Presley’s birthday today, Clive put on his sideburns and paid homage by singing his favorite song by the King. As you can see, they’re practically twins!
If you look at it sideways? With one eye squinted? Maybe?
Anyways …. our favorite Elvis songs are Helen – A Little Less Conversation; Mary Beth – Can’t Help Falling In Love with You; Clive – Devil in Disguise. What’s your favorite? Tell us in the comments and we’ll give you the link to 25% off your final purchase online at Fragile Earth (good through Sunday 1/13/13)
Jersey Shore Convention Visitors Bureau is launching an “OPEN FOR BUSINESS” Campaign and is calling all business owners to submit their own OPEN FOR BUSINESS pictures. We spent the afternoon with friends putting Fragile Earth’s picture together.
On the heels of the hurricane Sandy, The Jersey Shore Convention Visitors Bureau, (the only destination marketing organization sponsored by the State of New Jersey Division of Travel and Tourism), needs our participation. There is no charge for this campaign.
They are getting the word out that the Jersey Shore is open for business at www.visitthejerseyshore.com. If you have a business at the Jersey Shore, send in your picture NOW! Let’s show the world, NJ is OPEN FOR BUSINESS! You can submit via email to firstname.lastname@example.org, or post on their facebook page http://www.facebook.com/visitthejerseyshore.
Clive’s words of wisdom for this Friday.
**Clive is a Jellycat Cordy Roy Aardvark and can be purchased either through our online site, Fragile Earth, or in our store at 9 Monmouth Street, Red Bank, NJ.
Ideally, we’d love to have everyone shop our online store but how do customers find www.feplush.com in the sea of all the other sites that sell Jellycat or eeboo? Right now, most of our online sales are coming from eBay where the fees tend to eat away our profits. So we started sending an insert with all our shipments hoping to direct returning customers to our store. By using a specific checkout code and offering a discount, we can track anyone who makes the switch. Hopefully, there will be a lot of them:)
