GIVEAWAY – Paper Airplane Book

Do you know someone, young or old, who loves paper airplanes? Then, have we got the giveaway for you! Periodically, publishers send us books to inspect, to see if we’d like to try selling them in our store. Despite having the family desire of running an independent bookstore, we’ve discovered that we cannot compete with the mega-stores as far as books are concerned, so we remain at Fragile Earth Stuffed Animals purely about the plush. However, nothing was said about giving away the books, so you guys have a chance to score this lovely book for FREE!

Welcome to the Kids Paper Air Plane Book by Ken Blackburn and Jeff Lammers, published by Workman Publishing. This book has all sorts of great information about how to fly paper (and regular) airplanes –

including the forces of dynamics such as lift.

It features games to play inside,

games indoors

instructions on making an airplane mobile,

airplane mobile

and how to hold airplane flying contests, amongst lots of other projects.

But best of all, there are instructions on making lots of different airplanes, like the butterfly plane

butterfly 1

AND the book also provides colored copies of the plane.

For the hungry among us, there’s the pizza plane

and for the truly adventurous, there’s the count plane

That’s just three examples – the book is full of different types of paper airplanes, gliders, etc.  And  they give you three (count them 3) copies of each plane. Not only that, in a stroke of genius for those of us that routinely tear the pages as we try to remove them from the book, the pages are all PERFORATED!

Removal made easy, baby!

This book could be the perfect gift for the aviator in your family, covering all manner of information about paper and real airplanes.

And don’t let the word kids in the title fool you – I know folks of all ages who would love this book. As a matter of fact, there are a few that are a little upset that we’re giving it away. Know someone who’d like this for the holidays? All you have to do is leave a comment. You have til Friday night and we’ll pick a winner on Saturday morning. Everyone is eligible so comment away!

Many thanks to Workman Publishing for sending us this book to peruse.

It’s time for our weekly freebie here at Fragile Earth Stuffed Animals. This week, we’re giving away four, count them – 4 (if you have problems, the Count will help you, ah, ah, ahhh), workbooks for kids ages 2 and up.

all 4

And to help us explain what a great prize this is, we have one of the aliens from the hysterical book Aliens Love Underpants. Please note, the alien is NOT part of the give away!

My mom told me I have to try to fit in on this world and the best way to learn is to go to school. But I’m not ready for school yet so I’m going to study these books to learn everything I need to know before I start kindergarten.

Everyone talks about colors all the time! I know some colors –

color 3

like green, that’s my color!

color 4

And red? That’s the color of my underpants (hee, hee!)

color 5

If I match the bows, can I have one for my hair? Which one will look best in my hair? What do you mean, bows are only for girls? That’s just silly!

counting 1

Counting is easy. I have one eye and two feet and a gazillion blue hairs! Not a gazillion? 70 billion? I get confused after 5 so maybe I’d better use this book a little.

number 3

I know I need help writing my numbers so this is good.

number 4

And counting big numbers. Is one four bigger than a gazillion?

letters 1

Mmm! Cookies! What? This isn’t about making cookies?

letter 2

Ohhh, letters! I know that letter – that starts alien.

letter 4

Oooohh, mazes. Look – Telly is at the end waiting for you to finish!

Math? What’s math? You learn it after counting? Okay, if you say so!

math 3

Dot to dots? I love dot to dots!

math 4

And look, Telly has ideas for activities to use with more advanced kids. That’s cool. I can use them when I’m done learning the basics.

math 6

What is this adding you keep going on about? You mean, if I take one fish and then get another one, I’ll have two fish? Do I get to eat the fish? Then why do I care how many fish I have?

If you think that this prize would be good for your child, please just leave a comment before Saturday morning. First thing Saturday, we’ll pick a winner and mail the books out on Monday. Please make sure you leave a way for us to contact you in the comments so we can let you know when you win. So far, we’ve had one commenter for each give away post, so your odds are pretty good! Don’t forget, the prize is the books – not the alien.

** Updated to add – contest end date **

This week, in keeping with our theme of monsters, we’re giving away a free Monster Madness Game from Peaceable Kingdom Press. front

The game comes in a sturdy cardboard box that holds 48 tiles, 4 monster playing pieces, a spinner and a game board. The tiles and game board are made of the same sturdy, laminated cardboard.

There are instructions for two different games, one basic and one a little more challenging. However, the tiles would also be great for Concentration (also known as Memory) – remember that game? We used to play with a deck of cards, but sometimes colorful monsters are fun too!

The instructions say that this is a game for 2-4 people, ages 4+, however, as with any game, it’s limited only by your imagination!

How easy is it to enter to win this game? Just leave a comment. Any comment. Please make it a nice comment. I’d hate to send the game to someone who said something nasty.  Also, make sure you leave us a way to contact you. How awful if you win and we can’t tell you? Contest will end Friday night (10/16) and we’ll pick a winner Saturday morning.

**Updated to extend contest until Sunday night. I lost an old friend today and we will be spending the weekend at the viewing and the funeral.**

We have some bits and pieces left over from our other store that we want to share with our readers. Since we’re focusing on cats this week, we thought we’d start with a cat puzzle, brand new from Piatnik. This puzzle is in the Hana Deka style, defined by Wikipedia as “literally ‘big nose’ created by the animal lover and photographer Yoneo Morita, that prominently feature pets photographed through wide angled lenses.” The puzzle has 100 pieces, perfect for family game night, or if you just like jigsaw puzzles.

For a chance to win the puzzle, just leave a comment with the name of your favorite cat. If you don’t have cats of your own, and need inspiration, can we suggest Dudley & friends? We’ll randomly pick a name Saturday Monday morning so to enter, just leave a comment before midnight Friday, October 9th Sunday, October 11th.
